"The Hello, Goodbye Window" by Norton Juster and Chris Raschka

This beautiful 2006 Caldecott winner is written in the voice of a little girl who spends her days with her grandparents while her parents are at work. The "hello/goodbye" window is in the kitchen and the girl sees the comings and goings of the world from it.
